As Vice President of Real Estate Acquisitions, Roger Kinoshita seeks and acquires new housing development opportunities in urban and suburban locations throughout California, always mindful that new acquisitions for Jamboree ultimately result in much-needed housing for residents across the state. He focuses on building Jamboree’s project pipeline by locating, negotiating, and closing affordable housing opportunities and building relationships with market-rate housing and land developers.

Since joining Jamboree in 2014, Roger has been promoted from Director of Business Development to Senior Director of Business Development. He coordinates and informs team efforts, especially regarding outreach to property owners and brokers, and has initiated advances to enhance communication, bolster Jamboree’s nonprofit pipeline, and diversify its asset portfolio. He also identifies and cultivates relationships with municipal partners who want to develop affordable housing and robust community services.

His ability to help partners repurpose unused land and optimize timely funding opportunities has led to the creative use of churches’ unused land, excess land that brings municipalities and community groups together, and motel conversions aimed at solving homelessness with funding mechanisms such as Homekey. Roger believes that listening, building rapport, and establishing trust are essential in a partnership and collaboration.

Prior to Jamboree, Roger was a Senior Vice President with NAI Capital’s Investment Property Group. Before that, he served as Senior Vice President of Grubb & Ellis’ Investment Property Group, and his financial expertise led to the marketing and sale of $515 million in commercial/industrial properties throughout California. While at Related California, his financing, acquisition, and rehabilitation efforts produced 2,800 affordable multifamily units valued at $285 million.

What he likes most about his role at Jamboree is “working collaboratively with smart, innovative, and dedicated people.” Outside of work, Roger enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife and kids, woodworking, playing any kind of outdoor sport, and growing fruits and vegetables. He calls his Japanese and Japanese-American grandparents and parents his heroes because they achieved their goals despite racism and other challenges.

He is a founding member and former board member for CREER Comunidad Y Familia, a nonprofit helping vulnerable children and families in San Juan Capistrano. Roger received a bachelor’s degree in business administration (finance emphasis) from the University of Southern California.
