Fontana and Affordable Housing
Sierra Avenue is an affordable new construction development for families on a site located at the southwest corner of Sierra and Ramona Avenues (16839 Ramona Avenue) in the City of Fontana. Since 2001, Jamboree and the Fontana Housing Authority have partnered on seven communities, creating more than 350 high-quality affordable apartment homes. Through a 60-year ground lease agreement with the Fontana Housing Authority, Jamboree will transform a 4.31-acre blighted lot, previously owned by San Gabriel Valley Water Company, into 60 units of affordable housing for working families.
With some 15% of Fontana residents living below the poverty line and the state’s already high housing costs, the city has a significant need for more affordable family housing. As Jamboree’s first development of 2020, Sierra Avenue is further evidence of a sustained commitment to transform and revitalize city neighborhoods. Featuring amenities such as a community garden, free customized resident services, and an onsite health clinic, Sierra Avenue demonstrates a commitment to excellence that helps further the city’s goal to promote more affordable housing while also continuing to revitalize and diversify the city’s downtown.
Offering one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, Sierra Avenue is ideally situated near schools, parks, and retail centers. Residents will pay approximately $400 to $1,120 in monthly rent, depending on household size and income level. Special design consideration is being given to match the neighboring architecture, influenced by the farmhouse style found throughout the city.
What’s the latest?
In January 2020, Jamboree broke ground and began construction. See Fontana’s KFON News segment on the groundbreaking for an overview of the development, with comments from Jamboree President and CEO Laura Archuleta and Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren. When completed, Sierra Avenue will feature an approximately 5,000-square-foot community building that will house flexible recreational space, onsite management offices, kitchen facilities, and a computer lab where free onsite resident services will be provided to residents and available to the surrounding community. In addition to the community space, the property will include a 3,000-square-foot health and wellness clinic as part of Jamboree’s new partnership with Cucamonga Valley Medical Group.
