Safeguarding Our Seniors

Volunteers upgrade homes of Jamboree senior residents

Jamboree teams up with OC Fire Authority for in-home fire prevention.

When The Meadows in Irvine Manufactured Housing Community (acquired by Jamboree in 1998) was constructed in 1970, the installation of smoke detectors in homes was not yet required. Fast forward to December 2015 when 80 volunteers handily erased that task from the To-Do list.

After six weeks of planning and coordination with several agencies, nearly 80 volunteers from the American Red Cross of Orange County, Orange County Fire Authority, City of Irvine Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and others came out to personally meet the residents and install 521 new smoke alarms. After a short training, the team canvassed the Meadows' 40 acres equipped with red wagons stocked with supplies, tools, and a ladder. By 1pm nearly all the homes had alarms installed in every bedroom and in hallways outside the bedrooms.

The project was a fun social day for the 198 seniors, and underscored Jamboree’s commitment to their safety.

Residents commented:
“The people who came to my house did a fabulous job. They were so friendly and efficient. I offered them water, gave them a bag of ‘Cuties’ tangerines and thanked them profusely.”

“The installation team that came to my house was beyond amazing! They even took my garbage to the dumpster when they left!”

“Many thanks to the multitude of volunteers who assisted in the smoke alarm notification and installation yesterday. All your neighbors appreciate your efforts!”
