Advocate for Affordable Housing This Election

Make your political voice heard on critical housing shortage

Jamboree affordable housing community, Bonterra in Brea, CA.

With the 2016 election season upon us, it’s more important than ever that we make our voices heard on critical issues of affordable housing. More than 20 million American families – including seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and the working poor – can barely keep a roof over their heads, paying more than half of their income on rent. This leads to desperate tradeoffs between keeping a roof overhead and buying food or medicine. The problem is solvable – if Congress does its part to increase resources and improve policies.

Tuesday, September 27 is #National Voter Registration Day. October 24 is the last day to register for the November 8 election. Jamboree has joined the campaign to get housing on the agenda for Election Day and beyond. We hope you’ll join us. Here are three ways you can make your voice heard on the need for more affordable housing.

  1. Register to vote. You can’t impact the outcome if you don’t have a voice. Register to vote. Then let your voice be heard by voting FOR propositions that support more affordable housing.
  2. Sign the national #MakeRoom letter along with Jamboree, calling Congress to take action and do its part to increase resources and improve policies for housing affordability.
  3. Send Congress a message. The conventions are over. Candidates up and down the ballot are out on the campaign trail making promises and asking for votes. Let’s join forces to send one million messages to them to make sure that affordable housing is on their agenda. We urge everyone – residents, nonprofit, public and private sector partners to send a message.

The Jamboree mission is to deliver high quality affordable housing and services that transform lives and strengthen communities. An election year is a critical opportunity to have a voice in elevating the conversation about affordable housing. Congress needs to hear that our nation is facing a housing affordability crisis of record proportions that demands their leadership. Thank you for joining us to make some noise and make some change.
