Housing with HEART

The goal of Housing with HEART is to create living environments that foster learning, healthy living, and resident involvement and empowerment. The programs offered on-site at Jamboree’s affordable home communities are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual community, within the following three program areas:

•    Youth Learning and Academic Achievement: The primary focus of Housing with HEART is on the academic achievement of our resident youth ages six to seventeen.  The Youth Learning and Academic Achievement Program provides afterschool academic assistance such as tutoring and homework assistance, arts and crafts classes, as well as supervised play and socializing time.  Most sites also have a fully equipped computer lab and a lending library.

•    Family Health and Fitness:  Core principles of physical health and fitness are embedded in all of Housing with HEART’s programs.  Healthy snacks, cooking and exercise classes are offered.  Each year, as a capstone to these learnings, a convening known as Jam!boree Day is held to emphasize healthy living options and to recognize resident fitness achievements.

•    Community Building:  Housing with HEART facilitates resident gatherings to encourage residents to get to know each other and to take an active role in their community.  The events also provide a method of gathering input on needed programs and services and the quality of property management.  Other community building gatherings are held, such as multi-cultural holiday celebrations, “movie nights,” and “games nights.”  Housing with HEART also works to connect residents with available community services.
